Important surrealist artworks can be found in the Annex of the San Francisco Frey
Norris Gallery. In the Annex one can find one of the finest collections of surrealist
art in the United States which is available for sale.
The surrealist collection contains work from the birth of the surrealist movement
in 1924 to the 1960s by famous artists of this genre including Leonora Carrington,
Wolfgang Paalen, Dorothea Tanning and Remedios Varo. Recent exhibitions include
"Wolfgang Paalen: Implicit Spaces" with works such as the "Hamnur Trilogy" and "Taches
Solaires", "Leonora Carrington: The Talismanic Lens" which was the result of a five
year project of collecting, studying and getting to know this artist who is one
of the last surviving surrealist artists and writers and "Ðorothea Tanning: Beyond
the esplanade " which surveyed a fascinating period in the life and career of one
of the most intriguing surrealist artists of the last century.
Items for sale include unique works on paper, objects and paintings by surrealist
artists such as Victor Brauner, Leonor Fini, Wilfredo Lam, Max Ernst, Andre Masson
and Stella Snead.
